A desire to be of service to others and to bring God’s love and compassion into people’s lives has always called the sisters beyond the boundaries of home and nation to work with people in developing countries.

Often the services which develop mirror the services at home as sisters share their skills and experience, bringing a new sense of dignity to the people they are with.

‘The Company is Missionary by nature, it strives to retain the flexibility and mobility needed to respond to the calls of the Church in the face of every form of poverty.’ [Const 2:10]

Responding to this call and in the spirit of a long tradition of missionary activity, the Province of Ireland remains actively involved in evangelisation, in supporting and developing mission areas, using their resources in the service of their brothers and sisters in poorer countries.

‘They place themselves at the service of the local Churches and work for the growth and development of the young Provinces of the Company so that they may gradually assume their own responsibility.’ [Const 2:10]

As earlier missionary outreaches, such as Nigeria, reach maturity and become independent there is a continued response to new missionary calls. The most recent venture involving the sisters from the Province of Ireland is the mission in Kenya. Over the years the sisters have also shared their lives serving in a number of Other Areas responding to specific needs.
