Services for People with Intellectual Disability

The Daughters of Charity provided services to persons with intellectual disability in Ireland since 1926 To-day these services are based in Dublin, Limerick and North Tipperary and provide a wide range of services to adult males and females with moderate server and profound disability.

All services aim to provide supports that are “Person Centred” and in keeping with best practice.

Services /Supports  for children include the following:

  • Early Intervention /Specialist pre-schools as well as supports to mainstream preschools
  • Development Education Centre D.E.C
  • Special Schools and supports to mainstream schools
  • Respite
  • Family Support
  • Social and recreational activities e.g. community clubs
  • Multidisciplinary Supports including Occupational therapy ,psychology, physiotherapy, speech and language therapy ,social work ,community nursing and clinical nurse specialist in autism and behaviour .

Services /Supports to Adults include the following:

  • Residential Accommodation including community houses ,centre based houses and individual supports for individual service users .
  • Family Support
  • Social and Recreational Activities
  • Rehabilitive Training
  • Adult Day Services/ community hubs.
  • Supported /open employment
  • Specialist service for the older person
  • Specialist Dementia supports- in Dublin
  • Behaviour and Mental Health Supports
